Mean Bean & Wicked Grind Review

Found this cafe over the web while trying to find a dessert place for my belated b'day celebration with my girlfriends!
Well, the photos over the web look so decent and everything seemed nice which was why I chose this place, but little did I know what awaited me was disappointment.
It's just located around a 5 minute walk from Haji Lane!
It was opened by a food blogger, Kimberley Yeo.
Another point noted which built up the expectations.
The cafe was relatively small, seating capacity around 10-15pax?
We had to join two small tables outside cause' there were five of us.
The only cake in the fridge was this.
And needless to say (explains the lack of photos), there were less than 5 items on display. ):
No cupcakes and no eclairs too. ):
WHY.
What one of my friends had, Lemon Meringue Tart ($5.80)
Not really a fan of this but frankly the lemony taste was a little weird.
What I had, Seasalt Chocolate Caramel Shortbread ($4.90).
Fortunately, I think my order saved the day.
This is stellar.
Love the crunchiness of the crust and the sweet yet salty bite all at one go.
One of the downside was trying to cut through this shortbread!
Another chore, but all is well.
This is definitely a must-try!!!
Since there were not much to order, two of my other friend decided to have this.
The low fat Ovaltine Cake ($7).... which had no Ovaltine taste at all.
It's a little tad too dry as well.
Nonetheless, the plates were rather pretty for photo purpose.
Love the teacup set, so cute right?
And this is my Iced Mocha.
When this was brought to the table, I was somewhat speechless.
I swear I didn't drink it.
It came half-filled like that, with mocha stains on the outside.
Hmmmm, why?
Well, hoping the taste could save the image, I took a sip.
A pity it didn't.
Smoked Salmon Sandwich which I forgot how much it costed.
Simple ingredients; Ciabatta bread with some tomatoes, lettuce, and few slices of smoked salmon.
Well, I guess it tasted normal, nothing to shout about.
Overall, I guess I didn't have luck with the desserts that day.
Though I am quite taken aback, I must say the service provided was not bad.
I would make return visits cause I really want to try the Cheese Souffle Cake, the eclairs as well as the cupcakes!!!
And and and they are adding some brunch items to the menu too!
Shall give it another try! ^^
With my lovelies. ^^
